Welcome to 'How I Built My Small Business,' where we explore real-life entrepreneurship and building a meaningful, balanced life.
I started this podcast to honor my dad and help others navigate the messy, meaningful path of entrepreneurship. My guests (diverse in industry, experience, and background) open up about the real stories behind building a business: the wins, the mistakes, and the values that shape their choices.
It’s turned into more than I imagined… sometimes it’s a masterclass, other times it’s an honest, heart-opening connection between two people. But it’s always about curiosity, growth, and learning through storytelling… with a sprinkle of life wisdom.
Every guest has started a business at some point in their journey, and I make a conscious effort to maintain a 50/50 split of women and men.
Whether you're a founder, dreamer, curious individual or lifelong learner, I hope each episode makes you think or leaves you with at least one spark that inspires your own path.
Thank you for listening. Let’s learn together.

Hi everyone. I wanted to hop on here and let you know that how I built my small business is taking a little summer break. Summer is my absolute favorite season the sunshine, longer days and the call to be outdoors and with family and friends and with my kids out of school. This time is feeling extra precious. I've also noticed that my creative drive is shifting in this season.
Speaker 1:For the past year and a half, I've been exclusively reading more like devouring nonfiction, with an almost unquenchable thirst for knowledge and striving to be a better and better version of myself as the days go by. But right now I'm craving the opposite and wanting to sit by the pool and get consumed with a good fiction read. When the sun is out like this, sitting at a computer is one of the last places I really want to be. So I'm taking a few weeks to rest and reset because in our hustle driven society, rest is often undervalued or even shamed. But rest is a part of progress. It's essential to creativity, clarity and sustainability, and my version of success includes slowing down. And my version of success includes slowing down, and summer is like one big, beautiful seasonal inhale. This is part of the reason why I've kept this podcast as a non-monetized creative project. I'm not owned by a network and I don't have advertisers to please, which means I get to take a break because, quite frankly, I want to. So I'm giving myself permission to listen to my body, my mind, my spirit and to do what feels best, and that is to rest and reset and spend time outdoors with my family and friends.
Speaker 1:Aligning with nature's rhythm can reconnect us with our own inner timing, which often knows what we need before our calendar does, and my internal compass is asking for breathing room. So I'll be back in three weeks, a little more sun kissed, more relaxed and with more stories to share with you. A little more sun-kissed, more relaxed and with more stories to share with you. Until then, feel free to catch up on past episodes you might have missed, or maybe get off technology too and just enjoy moving your body and getting outside. So here's my gentle nudge for you If you're anything like me, you may feel that tug to slow down, but resist it out of habit or guilt. So maybe this is your sign to pause too. Maybe your summer reset looks like long walks without your phone, saying no to things that deplete you, or picking up a novel just because it feels good To recalibrate your nervous system, to shift from productivity to presence and to trade doing for being. Thanks for being here, for listening and for understanding the need to reset. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
